My company recently bought a Dell R710 server with dual X5550 Xeons. I installed this server with Redhat AS 4.7 x86_64 (kernel 2.6.9-78.ELlargesmp). By default, it installed a utility called 'cpuspeed v1.2.1' which automatically downclocked the CPUs when the load is low to save power.

I disabled this utility and noticed better performance. However, I don't think the 'Turbo Mode' on these CPUs is being used.

How do I get it to raise the clockspeed over the 2.66 that these CPUs default to? I've enabled 'Performance' mode in the BIOS, but I suspect the OS has to support it as well.
