Those scores are similar to what I had when I first got my 8800GT while still having an Athlon 4600+. When I got my 780i board, and E8400 I went up to 13k when overclocked.

I just got my Visiontek 4850 today popped it in and im doing about 10100 on 3dmark06. im running an athlon x2 5600+ at stock, so i dont think your that much off from me. 3dmark06 is cpu dependent. im sure if you were running a q6600 or e8400 youd be up to about 11500-12500 stock. get a good overclock and im sure youd get even higher. maybe when the next drivers come out itll help as well.

did you remember to disable driver forced aa and af? They are both on by default. When I turned them off my score went from 10K to 12K.
Scores:
sm2 4770
sm3 5690
CPU 2880

I get 15.5k with 8800gts.

While you can say the overall score is bloated by the cpu portion, the graphics portion (sm2.0, sm3.0) are still well above 6k each. 4850 is supposed to be equal if not better than an old 8800gts. Something is definately wrong there.

Sorry to ruin the jolly mood. But telling you guys everything is fine when they're not is not actually helping.

Its still a low score...i had the 4200x2 @ 2.6ghz with 8800gt and i got about 10400 points. Try double checking that you dont have aa, af on?

^ thats barely 500 over the OP... 500 doesn't matter at all... the only time when you know something is wrong in 3dmark is when the difference is over a 1000

So far the 4850 really doesn't do well in 3dmark. But it does very well in games. I hear a lot of people wonder about why they get low scores, but the real world benchmarks show the opposite. 4850 = 10K to 13K 3dmark, and alot of 8800GTS512 reach 12-15k, yet the 4850 still pulls ahead in games.

I thought ATI cards are supposed to do better in 3dmark and worse in games. Run some game benchmarks and post what you get. :p

Yup. Thats right. Eventhough my score seems low, playing CRYSIS @1280x768 all very high 4x AA is pretty satisfied. It runs VERY VERY SMOOTH and no lagging at all. NFS PROSTREET @1440x900 all maximum detailed runs like a champ and not forgetting GRID @1280x768 all maximum detailed blow away my mind. Just now I oc'ed my x2 4400+ a little bit more to 2.91ghz and got 9970 score. Nah... I dont care much about the score as long it keeps me always smile in front of my computer. :D

Sounds awesome. OK, Im getting too itchy, gotta get my 4870 soon or Ill explode heheh. Im still trying to wait for a better cooling solution, but I may not wait much longer

I just oced my 4850 to 700core and 1100 mem! stable! @75C load stock cooler. Antec 900 case with 1 fan blowing intake for the card and 1 fan blowing exhaust. I will run 3Dmark soon, my last run got my 11600 stock. not bad for a card that only gets 13K with a nehalem. But the games love it. Idles 55C

Not sure if it is better but the specs on your set up are much more different than what the creator of the this post posted.

1. You are using an Quad Core CPU which appears to be Over Clocked. That alone will net you quite a bit more points.
2. Your 8800GTS is also Overclocked.

If you want to see how the HD4850 really compares to your machine you would have to put an HD4850 in your machine and tune the core/RAM/Shader speeds to what your are running your 8800GTS. I wouldn't be suprised to see at least the same scores or better.

I'm up to 13,419 benchmarks on 3DMark06:

http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compareResultId=7592186&compareResultType=14

Some specs on my machine:

-E8400@3.6GHZ_ ECS GF7070VT-M MB
- Corsair XMS2 DDR2 @800mhz 5-5-5-18-22-1.8V
- OS XP with SP3
- HD4850 GPU core@700mhz/ GPU DDR3@2310 effective mhz

Very important to do a clean install of the latest 8.7 drivers and 8.7 CCC from ATI in order to run it stable.
Have to delete all registry *ATI* files and ATI related folders.
Run Driver Sweeper to help out.
Do it in SAFE mode.

Hopefully RIVA Tuner will support the 4800 RADEON series soon. When it does core speeds will be easier to OC.
The Core runs very stable at 700mhz (MAX for ATI Over Drive CCC Application).

I don't plan on "pencil modding" my HD4850 but I found one person who did it in order to get around the locked core speeds and are scored over 15,000 benchmarks on 3dMark06 with an E7200@3.8ghz CPU. (E8400 can OC higher)

So yes the HD4850 can perform decent benchmarks when properly tuned and configured.

Besides the benchmarks it plays great!!!

Games I have played with mine so far:

Crysis, F.E.A.R. Platinum Collection, BioShock, Orange Box, PREY in OpenGL 2.0,
UT3.

Basicly every game I have loaded into it with the games latest patch updates is playable in high speed fashion.

4850 and 4870 to me have always had strangly low 3dmark06 scores comapred to older ATI cards. But they win straight out when AA/AF is turned on, even against nvidia cards.

HD4850 is no slouch on 3DMark06.

Scores above 13,000 with E8400 are very common with HD4850. This is without a decent aftermarket GPU and tuning applications like Riva Tuner.
