hi all,
1st time post here so things may seem a little out of whack.

These are the current specs for the pc i want, i'm just a little unsure on a few things. (this will be used for gaming)

CPU- Intel Q6600
Mobo- Asus Striker II Formula
GFX- 2x asus 1gb 8800GT
HDD- velociRaptor 300Gb
RAM- kingston hyperx 2gb

Case- ThermalTake VA8000BWS
PSU-

Mouse- Logitech G9
Keyboard- Logitech G15

First is it worth getting the 1gb model of the 8800GT or is it just a gimmik? and will it make any difference being as it will in SLI?
Second would it be better installing the operating system (XP) on the veloci drive, or is it a better option to get another cheaper drive for the operating system or vice versa?
Third will i need more ram and will it make a difference if its 4gb of 800mhz or 2 gb of 1066mhz.. im guessing it will, just not sure how much.
And last but not least what is a reliable good quality PSU for the system outlined. And what Wattage would be required.

Any other advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

yes a little out of wack

cpu- Intel e8400 instead
motherboard- get a p45 or p35 instead
gfx- wait for new cards in two weeks, if you have to get it today then 1x evga 8800gts (g92) and step up once the new cards are out
ram- 4gb 4-4-4-12 ddr2 800
case is your preference
psu - corsair 550vx
hdd - velociraptors are fine if thats all the space you need also look at seagate drives with 7200.11 or wd drives with ...AAKS
if you dont already have an os get vista 64, and yes you want the extra ram

You could use this calculator to calculate the power supply wattage.

^ What he said, but what resolution is your monitor? Can make a difference on what card you get, or if you need 2 cards.

+1 for gator..

You don't need that motherboard. Overpriced for limited advances over P45 and x38. It does not support SLI anyway, so buying 2 of them (video cards) won't help you. But let's not get started on SLI.

Make sure you know what the G9 is before you it. It is NOT a normal mouse. It is a claw grip. You might know exactly what that is. If you don't probably should not get a G9.

1GB 8800GT is a gimmick. HardOCP tested it and it made zero difference in all but 1 game. I don't remember the game it mattered, but the game sucked so no one cares anyway.

DDR2 RAM, 1066 isn't worth the price difference.

While the Corsair is an excellent value and highly recommended, right now this one is a better deal from PC Power and Cooling:

Same price as the Corsair after MIR, but its $10.25 cheaper in the end due to the free ship. Plus its 610W over 550W to boot.

Edited for clarity because I am scatterbrained.

Thanx a lot for your help guys, i put the SLI 8800GT's in b/c i wasnt sure as to the release date of the new cards in Australia, pricing isnt much of a problem as i have access to cheap pricing through work.
But anyway, thanks for pointing out that that mobo isnt SLI compatable, slipped my mind completely.. :ouch:
I'll get 4gb of ddr2 800mhz ram as opposed to 2gb of 1066mhz
I'll wait for the new cards, and save myself SLI hassle.
I think i will go with a p45 board, and hope they are released at about the same time as the new GFX cards

Thanx

yes they support it, it is as of yet unknown if they will utalize it or a normal pci 16x slot is fine, mobo is really a matter of brand prefernce to some degree i like gigabyte and msi, others love asus or dfi list goes on i would say get a p45 motherboard, some would say it is a waste of $50

Well if thats the case i guess $50 wasted $$ it is :) msi im not a fan of, saw 3 out of 5 p35 neo boards come flying back to our RA dept in the last week alone :/ i personally am not fussed, as much as i would love to stick with AMD and ATI but they are lagging too far behind to make it worth getting :(
