Add hard drive hardware from one computor to another computor

existing Hard drive slave looks like [:] :- : . : first 2 are covered, next 2 only the top is covered.

hard drive being put in . . . . nothing covered. do i need to do something here? please let me know,

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums. Firstly, I suggest you use the Edit facility to take your e-mail address out before it gets sold to the Spamming community of idiots.

As to the drives, if you look on the label or sometimes pressed into the plastic near the jumpers, you should see which jumper does what. You're looking for MA, SL and CS for Master, Slave and Cable Select. Western Digitals also have one for Master with Slave Present. It's best to go for Cable Select on all the drives if you aren't certain, and put the Slave in the middle position connector on your cable so the Master is at the end.
