Hi.

I have been planning to do a huge upgrade of my PC and have chosen the following parts:

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2
(To replace some generic acer junk)
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(3094 [...] -7050.aspx

4GB 800Mhz RAM (To replace 1GB 667Mhz)
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(3275 [...] -6400.aspx

Q9450
(To replace E2160)
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=4YCV

Now this is my penultimate question before I go ahead. I'm interested in gaming more than anything, so I'm not looking for Uber Compressing or compiling speeds.
For gaming, am I better off buying the Q9450, an E8500, or an E8400?

My new rig will be as follows:

One of the above CPUs
Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2
Gainward 8800GT
4GB 800Mhz RAM
FSPGroup Blue Storm 500w PSU

Last question:
What sort of games can expect to run at what Frame Rates with the best CPU listed above?

Thanks :D

How long do you plan to keep the setup above? If your going to upgrade in a year or two, get the fastest dual you can afford, if your going to keep the setup for a long while, a quadcore will withstand age much better.

For a motherboard, I would get one the these chipsets:

750i/780i
P35/P45
X38/X48

Sorry, you first two links to microdirect are not working.
It may be Tom's problem, though.

For gaming an e8500 now would be faster.
The future belongs to Quad core though.

The frame rates will be influenced by the video card, more than the CPU.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.

There is too much price difference in your store between e8400 and e8500.
I would go with the e8400.

both of e8500 and 9450 are good for gaming, but e8500 is better, coz many games takes advantage in high core clock than multi core clock cpu.

Thanks :)

I honestly don't mind about the price. I will have enough money to upgrade once a year anyway, so future proofing isn't necessarily an issue.

First two links work now, and here's the E8500 site which I'll buy from:
