I am not an OC'er, I edit home videos, trade for a living (across 3 monitors) and the rest is generic computer usage & watching DVD's on screen. I want 4gig. My components are (I'm building a new pc):
CPU: Q9550
GPU's: 2x ati 3650's (for multi-monitor)
MB: ASUS P5Q-E

What about these, any preference or doesn't matter which?

Keep in mind, I don't care about a 15-25$ price difference for something that I'll be using for at least 5 years. Just reliability & long usage (w/ performance a nice bonus) matters to me.

They all have rebates, so look at the rebate price:

I just ment that i agree with what you said but i have not looked at *Refer to www.asus.com or user manual for the Memory QVL(Qualified Vendors Lists) as mb's now days can be picky about ram

Tnx for the tip. Just read the QVL for the P5Q-E and the crucial's I listed are not listed in the QVL, but the corsair's listed here, ARE listed in the QVL:

So I may just go with the above mem sticks because ASUS says they are good to go for the board.

Question. I'm reading all these posts about them coming stock 5-5-5 so you need to change them to 4-4-4. Isn't that just a simple change in the bios? Why do they make it sound like it's rocket science?

Also, are there any other 'tricks' to getting 4gb running under Vista 64-bit, or should it just be good to go on a new build?

Yes change settings in bios but reading specs on egg they are at 4-4-4-12 ,you might have to bump voltage a little four the 4gb but set them to 2.1 first

ok, and let's say i have to bump voltage to the 2.1, i assume in the bios as well, how do i then determine if they are running at the 4-4-4-12? is that what memtest is for, or is there another way to determine it?

Finally, I'm starting to research what power I need, does memory even enter into the equation? I've looked around and can't figure out how much power the memory draws, I'd imagine barely any?

1. yes setting voltage is in the bios 2. you can use cpu-z to check memory speed also cpu speed 3. memtest is for checking memory stability 4. with out knowing all of you system specs if would guess a 650 watt power supply would work fine for you.

Tnx, I'll try & lookup the wattage requirements on all the components I selected (assuming the documentation shows it), but the 650 is a great 'double-check' number for me after I run the tally. Now just to run another 15-amp wire to my office from the circuit breaker box, fun fun fun. I really appreciate all the help, take care.
