What would cause my display driver to "fail to respond" in the middle of a game? It is a new build (my first) so it is entirely possible that I need to tweak something just not sure what. I installed the driver that came with the card when i set everything up. any suggestions?

Which card? Don't use the drivers that come with the driver CD, they are usually very old. Download them from the GPU manufacturers website.

http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html - For Nvidia cards

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html - For ATI (now AMD) cards

Make sure you go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the old drivers first, then reboot, install the new ones, reboot, hope it works. ;)

It is a 9800gx2

I will go to the website and download that driver now. I thought about that when i started but i assumed that since that was a relatively newer model, the driver would be up to date.

currently, im running vista 64bit and the only driver that doesnt crash for me is the 174.74 WHQL driver.

the 177.41 beta driver also works but you will need to get a modified .INF file to install it and it produces lower frame rates than 174.74 on my machine.

hope this helps.

try 174.74!!
