I installed the new Windows 8, but it is very difficult to manage for me, and I think my old Vista was better and a little easier for me to handle. Vista does not have all the bells and whistles but it was simple and, that's really what I want now. I don't want to loose any information if I can help it, so basically my question is will I loose work by switching back?

Depends on how you switch back. If you format the drive when you install, then yes you will loose anything on the drive. If you install Vista without formatting, your files will be there, you will just need to browse to them again. Or if you make backups of your files like you should be doing anyway, you can wipe the drive and copy the files from your backup.
