Hi,

What CPU fan and heatsink would you recommend for this motherboard/CPU/case combination I am building:

MOBO: BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138130

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 720 Triple Core
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103649

Case: NZXT Alpha Black Steel ATX Mid TOWER
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811146041

I would like to have a cooler & heatsink that is ideal for OC'ing and will not have trouble fitting in with the MOBO, CPU, and Case.

Thank you!

Thank you, JohnnyLucky. I have seen that list but I was wondering if there would be any fitting conflicts in particular w/ my build? I've never used an aftermarket cooler before.

Thanks!

It's hard to say. Usually not. Just do the best research you can, google the CPU cooler you like and your mobo model in the same search, read forums. For many HS, you might need a add on bracket for the AMD chip you have. Some come with it in the kit, some might not.

Kladal - The Frosty Tech web site is more than just a list. The web site contains technical reviews of just about every cpu heatsink available. The reviews include comments about the physical size of the heatsinks and fans and an explanation of the mounting brackets that are inlcuded with the heatsink.

I have a Phenom II 940 OC'ed at 3.4 cuz i wanna have it like that. i could easily go up to 4.0 but 3.4 is a good number considering that i never turn off my computer.

I use the Scythe Orochi

I've been using this on my Q6600 rig for ages, and I liked it's performance so much I wanted to transfer it to my new Phenom II 940 rig.

Unfortunately, the sheer size of it meant it clashed with my dominator memory on my gx2 mobo (check page 2 of the review and you'll see why - it overhangs the memory). It's a great cooler, it really is, just make sure you don't have issues with large heatsink fins on your memory if you go for it.
