More Information

I recently ordered my intel QX6850, i believe its part of the p35 chipset family, but am not sure how it will work on the x38 and x48 motherboards.
Anyways, I am looking to build it with the QX6850, I already have my case Antec 900(so space shouldnt be an issue), and am set on purchasing the ATI 4870 or the 4870x2(leaning towards the 4870 though) which are PCI-Express 2.0. I am not stuck on whats the latest and greatest, so im not really impressed with ddr3. I will probably overclock this beast. Since its been 5 years since i built a comp I am clueless to which motherboard would be best.

My question to anyone who can answer or has created a similar build is:

What would be the best motherboard for a INTEL QX6850, ATI 4870(X2 maybe ),DDR2/3 (if required), Antec 900 case, 720gb seagate barracuda HDD????

I really want something that is gonna be like under the $250/$275 price range.

It would really help me out a lot because like i said i haven't built a comp since 2003

Thanks ^^

No, cpu isn't part of a mobo chipset family, but cpu architecture family. To be specific, QX6850 is Kentsfields, same family as Q6600, with unlocked multi (gold) & faster clock speed.

You can drop this chip in ANY socket 775 board with the right bios. If you're getting HD4870, you might want to consider the P45 (PCI-E 2.0; x8 CF) or even better the X38/X48 (x16 CF). i.e. GA-EP45-DS3R & GA-EX38-DS4.

How much will you overclock the cpu? You might want an aftermarket cpu cooler. i.e. Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and HDT-SD964 + mounting kit.

Thanks a bunch man I am gonna do a bit of research based off of your recommendations, I was looking at a couple Gigabyte mobo's like the GA-X38-DQ6? Whats ur take on this one?

As far as overclocking, im probably going to overclock it to around ~3.6ghz just for **** and giggles you know, i dont really have a need for it that high but if i have the extreme it would be a shame not to overclock you know...

I will check out those after market cpu coolers, but quick question i was looking at the zalman 9700 which looks like its good from reviews, whats ur take?

Anyways Thanks again for your help and its much appreciated ^^

I'm on that mobo you mentioned in your last post. My e8400 is at 4ghz prime stable. Overclocking Gigabyte is a walk in the park.

Zalman is whisper quiet at stock, when maxed out (you have to when you're overclocking), it's loud. The ones I suggested are quieter at max speed.
