I brought a Q6600 about 3 months ago its working fine with default clock and settings but i am not satisfied with the stock cooling my temps would not go below 55C (all cores) and the overall CPU temp goes above 60C under minimal load i hav not even tried prime95 since i feared that i would fry the chip. I hav tried resetting the cooler 2 times with new paste every time, but its not worth it so i now think i need to change the cooler and hence need ur advice including the following limits:

price range : $25 - $40
form : Fan + Heatsink
accessories: thermal paste(not required but better to hav), backplate etc

all suggestions are welcome thanks in advance.

BTW its kinda urgent........

One good one is the Xigmatek HDT S-1283. But with the retention plate, it comes in over your budget.

I have a Q6600 and I use this cooler. My temps hover around 35-38 at idle and about 50-55 under load.

^ +1 that website does have lots of information relating CPU cooling devices. Popular ones tend to be the Scythe Mugen, and XIGMATEK S-1283 120MM cooler.

XIGMATEK with retention bracket...fork out the extra 10 dollars.
