The DVD i burned will run on my DVD player on the TV but i cant read it on the computer, says no disc in drive, also says this on another computer. But it did read it once, now it does not.
When i click on the DVD icon it either freezes that function or says no disc in drive. One software dvd/cd query function says under media type - IMAPI_E_GENERIC.
WHY is burning so confusing .... can anyone help. I tried everything including switching players.

Try another disc and see if that plays. I'm assuming that the DVD/CD writer is being detected in Device Manager.

Could be the original writer is going bad.

What OP/SYS are you using?

Just another thought about your "IMAPI_E_GENERIC" query, see if you can

uncheck that in your S/W.

XP pro .... two different burners doubt it, besides it does burn/read CD RW just not CD R, and i can read some DVD with mpeg files.
