I recently purchased an ASUS P5N-D motherboard for my new build. My problem is that the board is a piece of junk and has been nothing but a headache. I've been able to get the OS installed on it but not much more. I'd like to return it and get a different, yet comparable motherboard. However, I'm using an OEM version of Vista 64 so I don't know if I'll be able to install it on the new board. Could it work if I formatted the hard drive before installing the new board?

Any help would be amazing.

You can use the OEM version of Vista - I know they tell you one motherboard, etc, but you can just install again - or call and get a new code if they give you a hassle.

Sorry that you are having trouble. I don't understand what your issues is if you can get the OS installed, what else is not installing? How do you know it's the board?

If you want more help, let us know more specifics (system specs too)

1. You should be able to do a fresh install if required, if it gives you a hard time then you can call the 800 number at MS and explain that your motherboard died and you need to reinstall on a new motherboard. They will normally buy this and give you a number to re-enable the setup, etc.
2. Please give serious consideration to going with an Intel chipset motherboard, and avoid all the problems inherent in most recent nVidia chipset boards.
3. When researching your new motherboard, do not give much credence to user reviews on Newegg, many of these people consider their technical expertise high if they can recognize a computer 3 times out of 5.
