Hello, I'm building a computer for someone and I picked out a Rosewill 550w PSU, which I thought would be more than enough for his PC. But someone told him he needed at least 750w, which is nuts. I don't want him to spend a lot of money on a PSU I don't think he needs. Which is right? 550w or 750? Or somewhere between/below/above?

Here's the rig so far: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=7769051

Well Rosewill is crap so skip that altogether.

While we are at it.

Why in the hell are you buying a 780i motherboard and 9600GT? Please for the love of God don't tell me you are planning to SLI with that. That would be a terrible I mean terrible idea.

nVidia's Intel chipsets are crap, ditch it and your SLI dreams which are a waste of money.

Change the motherboard to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131299&Tpk=Asus+P5Q+Pro

Will OC better and have many fewer issues.

As for PSU, get this one:

Getting the motherboard shadowduck recommended would give you ~$70 extra you can spend on a video card and going with the 8800GTS 512 and the P45 would give you much better performance than the setup you chose.

Rosewill PSU's are crap and no you don't need 750w. A good 500-600w unit would run that system fine. The PSU shadowduck recommended is a great choice.
