2 GB of RAM seems low.

Reply to twattle

Nah, I dont need that much.

Video rendering? Put 4 GB of Ram in.

I suggest the 640 GB WD drive - 10% increase in cost and almost 30% increase in capacity. And they are supposed to be pretty fast.

"And FINALLY!
The legendary-----
Heatsink: SCYTHE INFINITY HEATSINK! - $44.99 ".

Time has marched on. Look at the Xigmatek S1283. It is very nearly as good as the TRUE and about half its price - about $40. Be sure to get the backplate and screws kit so you do not depend on the Intel-style push pin mounting

I dunno, 2gb seems enough for me to use for video rendering. I'm not doing really big stuff just medium.

You're right.. The scythe is getting old.

Will that one fit in my antec 900?

Isn't Artic Silver 5 better?

And whats the difference between the Rampage and the p5q?

You will want 4gb for your "heavy gaming"

+1 for the Xigmatek

Antec 900 basicly fits all. If you are worried, check out the antec 1200

Also don't get the 9800 GTX. Terrible deal. It is basicly the 8800 GTS 512 (G92) + a few bits. In many cases the 8800 GTX performs better than it.

P5Q i believe is the P45 chipset and the Rampage is X48. Difference is that X48 can have xfire with 2 x16 pci 2.0 slots. Also the X48 is made on a 90nm process vs the P45 which is 60nm. None of that really matters. I'd go for the rampage personally.

------------------------------ CPU: Phenom i7 976 @500mhz---Mobo: Dual Socket Via X58 w/ Dual Hydra GFX----Graphics:Eight FireGL GTX 280x2----PSU:Wall Outlet----Case:My fish tank----RAM: 2TB Seagate 2.5 Velociraptor----HDD: OS disk----CPU cooler: RAM heatsinks

I just like the rampage cause it gives me a good sound card ao i dont have to buy one.
Remember, this is no the final build I am waiting for the gtx 280 cards. Alright, I went down to the 8800 GTS It will save me some money too. Ill overclock that card.

A TRUE fits, and according to specs, the Xigmatek is a few mm. shorter.

Can I Take my old HD with windows and put it on my new pc? Or do i have to reninstall? Cause I dont want my whole HD to be wiped. Or.... Do I have to buy another copy of windows?

The TRUE fits in the rampage formula. I have a similar build, instead of the antec 900, I got the antec p182. I got 4gb of ddr2 1066 instead of 2gb. You can acronis universal restore the drive. That way you can transfer license to new hardware, without formatting.

Reply to Shadowthor

Thats like 300 dollars lol

Reply to sogangsta

What's 300 dollars?

Reply to Shadowthor

the program you suggested.

nevermind i was looking at the programs for business. the home ones are 40-50 bucks.

Reply to sogangsta

yea, so its reasonable, not $300, lol.

Reply to Shadowthor

seems fair. theres a free trial. Well can you tell me how it works and how I would connect the new hard drive and stuff?

Reply to sogangsta

but the free trial, wouldn't allow you to restore to any hardware, you need the acronis universal restore feature.

Reply to Shadowthor

ram is cheap as hell. get 4gb using 4 sticks if u want cheaper prices. 2gb is low, especially for video editing. get vista home premium 64bit, it really is the future. you could get 3 GA-P35-DS3L for the price of your rampage. its a good motherboard if you dont want raid. why not go simple and efficient and quiet and cheap, go Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, it kicks butt and is easy to install.

Reply to pcgamer12

get the mounting kit so u dont have to use the intel ref. pins that are too weak for that heavy cooler. idk if its worth it, people say though

Reply to pcgamer12

The TRUE isn't that difficult to mount, it comes with everything you need except the fan. It comes with the mounting kit for s775, the thermal paste, and fan clips. The rampage in my opinion is worth it, has all the overclocking features you could want and comes with a sound card, free game, etc.

Reply to Shadowthor

Already got the mounting kit. and 4gb but not 64bit cause im planning on using my xp media center. Rampage because Ill over clock and the extra sound card.

I like that build. However considering that the OCZ 700W PSU doesn't have enough connectors to be able to power more than one 5870, then save some money and change to this combo: Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB & OCZ ModXStream 600W $110 with $25 rebate.
