The most important thing you need to consider with a PSU is the strength of its 12v rail, as processors AND graphics cards use it. Companies like PC Power and Cooling, Corsair, and Antec all make good ones.

As for wattage... well that depends! If you go Quad, it's going to suck up more juice than the dual core, esp if you overclock it. The biggest difference though will be between either the 3870 or the x2 vid cards, and if you plan on adding a second one down the road and need the room for that. With that motherboard, I'm assuming you're interested in Crossfire.

So, with two 3870's I would say something like the Corsair 620W or 750W or PC Power and Cooling 610W or 750W if you want a little extra room/efficient.

With two 3870x2's, I would get the Antec Quattro 1000w. Solid unit, big fan, and usually is the best priced (for what you get) high end PSU.

Once you make up your mind on the CPU/GFX card and whether or not you're going to want to add a second gfx card someday, I'd search around for ppl with similar specs and see what they're using. I'd try to keep it within the PSU suppliers I mentioned before.

Also, unless you're really planning on a hardcore overclock, you don't need 1066 memory. I don't recall the 8500's multiplier off hand, but DDR2-800 will take a 8400 to 3.6Ghz and Q9450 to 3.0 w/o having to overclock the memory. Make sure you get a good heastink too!

Can maybe save a few $ too by not getting the sound card right away. On board sound is pretty good these days, so unless you're an audiopile doubt you'd ever notice it.

Might want to look at the Western DIgital 640gb HDD at places like NCIX.com because they've had them on sale for a while and they're really fast HDDs. going for around $80 I think (on sale).

Gooe luck!

Agreed!. For 3870X2 or 9800GX2s in SLI/CrossFire I say go with a Corsair 1kW.
