More Information

Yes, I am building a new PC for the first time in 8 years, and just need a little advice. First here are the specs right now:

AMD Phenom X4 9850BE
Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard
Asus Xonar D2 Ultra Fidelity 7.1
Antec Twelve Hundred Black ATX Full Tower
SAPPHIRE Toxic 100225TXSR Radeon HD 3870 (2)
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Apevia ATX-WA1100W Warlock 1100-Watt ATX Power Supply - SLI and Crossfire Ready
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb
Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1

Now, my first question is this a good build?

Second, will the stock cooler for the 9850 be enough or will I need something better? If so, can you please recommend a few different coolers that will work with the 9850BE?

Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, this looks like a very good build. I would just suggest that you might want to wait on the GPU's. AMD should be releasing new HD 4XXX series cards shortly. Also Nvidia is releasing new cards, GTX 280/260. You would probably be ok with the stock HSF with the X4 9850BE, unless you plan to do any serious OCing. If you are going to OC the 9850 than I would recommend a third party HSF. Look at arctic cooling, OCZ, Zerotherm, Zalman etc. Also depending on your GPU selection, you may want to try and save some money, and down grade the wattage on that PSU. You'd likely be alright with like 750-850watts, though the amps on the 12v rail is the most important thing. Hope that helps.

first wait for new graphics cards.

second, i don't think that the be processors come with a heatsink.

third, get either the msi or gigabyte 790fx chipset mobo. i haven't been hearing good things about the asus .

fourth, the psu is overkill. you need 800watts tops.

fifth, loose, ultimate , get the home premium 64bit version. ultimate version is not worth it.

Cool I will look into the MSI mobo I just saw the ASUS looked really good

The retail version of the 9850BE indeed comes with a HSF but its stock so I am not sure it will cool it down enough. I was looking but none seem to say they support AM2+ so of those brands are there any particular ones that for sure work with AM2+

I agree the PSU is overkill probably my paranoid side coming through and just making sure I have enough I will look into an 850.

On the home premium 64 bit I heard some problems arise with driver issues is this true?

Sorry for the double post but what exactly is better about the MSI mobo and what is wrong the with ASUS one?

When HardOCP tested a Apevia PSU it melted. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Don't buy 3870s now- wait for the 48x0 coming within 2 weeks.

Question: Why AMD? Intel smacks AMD around badly right now.

For the PSU: PC Power and Cooling Quad 750W

Good to know about the Apevia I was worried about that will switch that out

Yes, I know the new cards are coming I believe on the 18th this will not be happening until after I am waiting to see the price of the new cards.

AMD is a personal preference Intel systems are great no doubt there, but I enjoy AMD

Any other suggestions from anyone?

Unless you have high dollar speakers- the sound card is a waste of your money.
