I have two identical Seagate HD's: ST3160023AS. One is on a computer with mother board ASUS K8S-LA and another one ASUS P5LP-LE. The one with K8S-LA has read-write speed of about 4 MB/s and the one with ASUS P5LP-LE has about 50 MB/s. Both computer have Windows XP Pro. If the slower one is moved to ASUS P5LP-LE computer, it become as fast as the other one. I am wonderin if any one could offer me some tips about how to find what is wrong with the computer with motherboard ASUS K8S-LA.

read-write speed of 4MB/s just sounds like a PIO issue. So common it happens alot. Post a screenshot of HDTune if you like to identify the issue. Its accompanied by high CPU usage (interrupt usage), causing very sluggish behavior to the user; even the mouse may not be fluent anymore if using PIO.

So check if this is the case.

Thank you very much! Yes, it is accompanied by 100% CPU. I am searching for the solution now.
