I just bought a new cpu. Before applying the thermal paste, do i have to clean the cpu's surface, or can i directly apply the paste without cleaning the surface?

There should be a little peel away sticker deal on the cpu to keep it clean, but I generally always give them a quick clean anyway

I didnt notice a peel away sticker on my OEM Q6600 but there was a protective clip over it. I cleaned mine with rubbing alchohol and an ear swab then let it air dry. Hope this was the right thing.

hey um.... I never really looked for that peel away sticker. im running 22C and primed for 4hours ok.. I should be alright... right? lol. I didnt notice it. but I never looked for it either.

I have never EVER seen a sticker on the CPU. Rubbing Alcohol (70% or better) works very well in cleaning it. Just make sure its dry before doing anything else.

Applying the paste without cleaning wont hurt anything, but it is a good practice, just incase.......
