Something is very strange about:
1. ordering a cpu because your video card stops working
2. a man who knows nothing about timings choosing to spend $370 for a mobo
3. a person supposedly scrimping by on a AGP system for four years now choosing to spend over $700 just for the CPU and mobo on a new system.

Very strange.

i have a asus nvidia en 8800 gt 1gb under my desk in the box.
(2 months back), because i wanted to build a system slowly.
(i can post a picture with a newspaper and my nickname if u wanna see it).

i choose the q9450 for it massive l2 cache, 251€.
i choose this cpu 1 month back, but i couldn't buy it and now i MUST buy it.

te mobo = 241€
http://www.pccomponentes.com/ASUS_P5E3_PREMIUM_WIFI_AP__N.html
i wanted originaly the asus striker extreme II, but i got worried about the bad news i read here and there.

so i watched my venders list over and over and this one is closes WITH ddr3 ram.

when i assembled my pc 4 years back, i spend more than i spend now.
but there wasn't THAT huge choice of brand of rams, like there is now.
there was kingstong and maybe something, i can't remember.
i think the other in the shops here was NONAME, aside from kingston.

that why i asked this questions.
:(

I still think that stating you are ordering a cpu because your video card stops working was a strange statement to make but appreciate your explanation.

Your additional comments seem to confirm that you build a top end expensive system, then hold it for years without upgrading. A more effective plan might be to pay a little less up front and then upgrade some components after a year or two.

But neverthess, I apologize if my earlier suspicion about the veracity of the post was wrong.

because in total i have 5 broken agp cards in house.
and agp is to exspensive, i looked for it.

than my friend came and wanted a new video card.
i suggested a nvidia card, he investigated the whole stuff.
and came to conclusion, the 8800 gt, was the best price/value card.
he bought a pov 8800gt 512.
he asked my to build it in and i was impressed.

i researched aswel, but agp was my problem.

by the way, i have a DFI lanparty 875 pro, it was 279€.

@The_Blood_ Raven

please define, why.
i though cpu's fsb = 1333, i need 1333 ram.

You Best Bet is to do the Following.

#1 - State What you Want to Use Your Computer For.
#2 - Tell us what type of parts you think you need and what you think you can use from your current build. Most likely only the OS, Keyboard, and Mouse based on the age.
#3 - Tell us your budget.

Folks can then help you build a good machine.

wel, today i spend 251€
next month i can spend max 400€.
and it must be next month, i cannot wait.
i'm a secondlife player, programer, develper.
and i straiend my current pc to the max, day after day.
i run 45+ SL bots, avatars without grafical environment.
photoshop, visual studio 2008.

and maybe some other game, since i'll beabled to soon.
fx5200 was getting lame and is currently half death.
flikkers and i can't connect the second screen anymore.

and i hate waiting between switching apps.
(ALT + TAB).

i have bougth 4 x 250mb maxtor sata disks, i'm a raid user.
currently 2 x 250 in raid 0.
2 stil bagged, they are also new.
since 3 months, my old 120's sata failed 1 of 2.
i wanna use raid 0+1.

i just need speeds between switchig, loading apps.

so atleast 6 sata + raid cababilties.

Keep in mind that 9 clocks on DDR3 1333 is the same latency as 4.5 clocks on DDR2 667. CAS 6 DDR3 1333 would be like CAS 3 DDR2 667 (this is latency only - as far as bandwidth goes, the DDR3 is way ahead).

WHAT?! Ok first off, there would be no performance boost for a 1:1 ratio. Secondly some RAM at 667 WOULD benefit from the FSB and you would get a nice 1:2 ratio. That said you would still get better performance out of 800 Mhz RAM, not to mention 1066 Mhz RAM, which is the highest performing niche when it comes to RAM under $200-300 a stick...

well, since the the shop i buy sell 800mhz cheaper than the same amount of ram of 667.

i'll go for that.

i think i'll see something simmular, like i see now with my prescot 3.0 800fsb on ddr400.

i think i'll see q9450 1333 with 667 on the ram.

i changed my mind on the mobo.
https://www.pccomponentes.com/ASUS_P5Q_DELUXE_SOCKET_775.html

i like the 16phase power supply.

and thats the best i can do with the available money @ this moment.

i can't wait to get it assembled, hopes paypal will be a little fix with the money.
i can aways buy upgrades on a later point.

lots of things have changed since the last computer i have build for myself.

Could anyone please direct me toward finding a reason why as soon as connect 3 Vista Computers to a 2wire modem/wifi router through a switch, I get latency jumping to 300-600mbs? I'm trying eventually use voip but I'm getting huge jumps jumps with the internet connect, no browsing or anything I'm doing to use bandwith. Sorry to hijack but I tried, logging in, sending an email etc, an all was rejected. I'm don't know how to post. Many thanks, John
