Can I use a Sony 3.5" FDD with Windows XP. If so where can I find the drivers?

It should work, XP already has the drivers. Attach it, and XP should find it on the next boot.

Is this an internal floppy or a USB one?

Its an internal one.

In that case, it should just work. Are you sure that you have cabled it correctly? (It can be easy to get the data cable the wrong way round.) Does the BIOS see the floppy drive?

The BIOS refers to 'Legacy Drive A'. In the boot up sequence it gives:
First Boot HDD
Second Boot CDROM
Third Boot Removable Drive.
If I go into 'My Computer' I see icons for these three. But NO removable drive is installed.

Make sure the FDD is enabled in the BIOS.

Make sure you have connected the 4 pin floppy power connector.

FDD is enabled in the BIOS. System manager says its functioning OK but the drive does not function.

You mean device manager? If yes, right click and uninstall it, then restart the PC. It will reinstall on restart.

Does the A: drive show up in My Computer?
