In that case, it should just work. Are you sure that you have cabled it correctly? (It can be easy to get the data cable the wrong way round.) Does the BIOS see the floppy drive?
The BIOS refers to 'Legacy Drive A'. In the boot up sequence it gives: First Boot HDD Second Boot CDROM Third Boot Removable Drive. If I go into 'My Computer' I see icons for these three. But NO removable drive is installed.
Make sure the FDD is enabled in the BIOS.

You mean device manager? If yes, right click and uninstall it, then restart the PC. It will reinstall on restart.
