2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800) 5-5-5-18

(1x2GB) Corsair DDR2, 6400(800Mhz) 5-5-5-18

2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, 4-4-4-12

Please can someone advise me on which one to get? I dont really get what difference the timings make...I know aggresive timings are better but I dont really understand the technicalities...Can I not just set agressive timings for the slower RAM?

Should I buy the RAM in 2x1GB or 1x2GB.

Depends on the motherboard

If the motherboard allows "Dual Channel" configuration go for the 2x1GB. they are sold in pairs and insert them in the dual channel ram slots - Refer to motherboard manual to identify the dual channel slots

timings are important. companies with basically up the voltage to lower the cl. best thing to do with ddr2 800 is to make sure to get 1.8v. As long as that is the voltage you know you are getting "standard" ram. then if you overclock you can up it yourself.

what is your motherboard? and is 2gb enough for your set up? that will help determine whether 2x1 or 1x2.

No I get that. But which one out out of the 2x1GB? and why not go for the 1stick in case I need to upgrade in the future?

Your post just appeared after I right that bdollar. Tried to delete my double post but it wont let me. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 This is the Mobo. Would like more RAM but tight budget...I've heard running 3GB isn't as productive as 2GB or 4GB as it cant run in Dual Channel. Whats your oppinion on this?

if your running XP 2GB will really do it and it would not really be worth it to get more. but if your running Vista 4GB might be an option for you, since it requires more memory. And most Mobo's now adays are dual channel so your best option is to go for 2 sticks. so don,t go for a single 2gb stick.

agree 2gb will do it on xp. but vista you should do 4gb. also 2x1 vs 1x2 depends on how long you plan to run that setup. if you want 4gb and within a few months can do that then get 1 stick and then add another but if this is it for awhile you are better served to split between 2 sticks.
