Noise and American Megatrend

Hello,
I have an Acer AM5620 desktop. Every now and then on starting up an unusual noise is heard from the Towe and a black screen comnes up withthe Amer.Megatr. logo stating CMOS problem and asking to enter the date for the CMOS. When the July 2007 date is replaced withthe current one, etc. the computer starts up and works OK.
What causes this problem and what to do about it ?
