Hello there.
I received a new Western Digital Caviar Blue 640 GB hard drive the other day
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218
and after I formatted it, it started producing a faint clicking sound every 2 or 3 minutes. (It's not a piercing siren or anything, but a soft click. Audibly, it's as loud as your thumb gently hitting your mouse pad.) Thankfully, it's a secondary drive, so no major worries concerning data loss.
Using my main 160GB hard drive, I can easily go to My Computer>Local Disk>Properties to check the capacity of the drive, but when I installed the 640GB drive and tried to check the capacity, there was a noticeable gap from when I pushed "Properties" and when the screen actually came up (about 1 minute). Since it used to be instantaneous, this seems like a problem. I installed DiskCheckup and WD's Data Lifeguard, but both say that the drive is in satisfactory condition. BIOS recognizes the drive and I can write files to it, but that sound and lag are worrying me. Should I RMA? Or is this acceptable?
Thank you very much.
