I copy my files to drive d(partitioned)of my computer and formated the c:drive.after installation of windows xp2006 and office, any file i tried to open access denied.U kept the hard disk in another computer so i can retrieve the files the same access denie,

That happens if you try to access system directories created by another Windows installation.

To access the files, you need to CLAIM OWNERSHIP. In short: go to folder settings (in the menu of explorer somewhere; not iexplorer but explorer). There's a setting for simple file sharing, disable it!

Then, right click the directory you want access to, and it should have a Security tab. Open it and choose to claim ownership, including all subdirectories (inherited).
