Maximum HDD Size Dell Demention 2300

After installing a 500 Gb HDD in my Dell, I only see about 197 GB. Does the BIOS limit my size and if so, what should I do? Thanks

Stupid question: you installed a new (and presumably empty) hard disk into your Dell Dimension right?
