I've been going back on forth on graphics cards and had decided that I would go with a 4870 and crossfire later but after looking at some more benchmarks, it makes much more sense to just buy the 4870 x2. This also means that I don't need an x48 motherboard because I'm not planning to crossfire. Any suggestions for a good overclocker that's cheap (~100-150) or should I stay with an x48?

Yeah, the HD 4870x2 beats the HD 4870 Crossfire because it has more RAM. It also has the advantage than any P45 motherboard will do, even one with a single PCI-E x16 slot, and that can save you $100 or more compared to an x48.

Asus P5Q Pro, $140, 8 SATA ports, it even has Crossfire for those who do care. The second PCI-E slot can be used with a cheap HD 3450 if you need 3 or 4 monitors.

GA-EP45-DS3L, around $100, if you don't care about RAID or lots of disks or lots of monitors.

On second thought: if you get Vista and a 1000W PSU and want to add a second video card later (HD 4870 or HD 4870X2) then definitely get an x48 (P5E Deluxe, GA-X48-DS4, etc.) That's probably overkill though, because adding a 3rd (and maybe a 4th) GPU doesn't add much value, except maybe in CoD4 and a few others. Maybe later if drivers and games are better optimized for it... If you use XP, drivers won't support 3 GPUs anyway AFAIK.
