Hi,

I have a Intel Pentium D 280 "Smithfield" an want to replace its old heatsink with a Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

The only problem is that my current heat sink has screw connectors that go through the mobo into a rear backplate. I can remove the backplate without any problems and so I have two questions:

- Are the holes in my mobo compatible with newer heatsinks as the LGA775 socket "looks" like it sits quite high.
- Is the Artic cooler 7 Pro suitable for a Pentium D.

My motherboard is a ASUS P5PL-LE,

Thanks Tom.

Also can anyone recomend a good HSF, I have a HP computer and the BIOS is locked so I can't PWM fans, The fan socket only provides a steady 5v and so I need a FAST (PD's Get HOT!!!) but quiet fan. Also can I unlock my BIOS?

AFAIK, the LGA775 heatsink mount hasn't changed as long as LGA775 has been around, so your AC Freezer 7 Pro should fit fine, and also work fine for a Pentium D (I had one on an OC'd Pentium D 805).

if you want something cheaper then go with the coolermaster TX2, it came out top on THG coolertests, i built a machine with it and it is a great piece of kit.
