Hi Guys

I have the opportunity to buy a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX for next to nothing but don't have a clue about sound cards and what are good specs.

I know the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX is a few years old but thats about it, I have just bought a new mobo and don't know if the built in sound on that is better than the older sound card.

Heres the sound card http://www.digit-life.com/articles/audigyplatinumex/index.html

Heres the mobo http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2622&ProductName=GA-P35T-DS3P

Could any sound card experts advise me whether or not this is a decent card that will improve on the integrated audio on the motherboard. Or whether its to old and not worth it.

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks

The Audigy was a little quirky, with sound issues, and it was seriously improved with the Audigy 2 ZS [an excellent soundcard] so personally I wouldn't buy it its a waste of money.

It also depends on what operating system you're running for any soundcard upgrading, but if we're talking WinXP, the Audigy 2 ZS and the newer X-FI series of Creative soundcards are some awesome soundcards.
