Hello everyone! I recently decided to jump into overclocking the i7 920, so I decided to purchase a v8 Cooler Master. I downloaded p95 and real temp to get ready to OC and when I turn on real temp I flipped out. My IDLE temps on my cores is from 47-53 and well.....yah that isn't good. When I installed the heatsink it did have thermal paste on, so i have no idea what the problem is. Any feedback to this would be amazing.

Running an EVGA x58 Mobo with antec 1200 case so there are plenty of fans.

Well it is possible to have high idle temps if you're in warm weather right now. What are your load temps? Load temps are what matters, you could idle at 53C and if load is only at 60C, you are still looking good.

Are you certain that you removed the clear protective cover? I'ts a common mistake.

I think you need to change your standards... Over the winter in New Hampshire, I ran my E8400 at 4Ghz idling at mid 30's, load in the low 60's. Now it's a 2Ghz because it's down clocked to fit my current PSU, but besides that it's at 2GHz now, and idling at 40-45C, but load is 49/50C. Its what happens when your ambient increases by about 20-30F. Liquid cooling is really the only way to dampen this effect, but even then it won't be stopped. Higher ambients=higher temp overall by a rather large margin depending on the change in ambients.
