Hi all,

I have a x-fi xtreamemusic card that I took out a while ago to install vista. Long story short, creative doesn't give me 5.1 sound in Vista.

What I like to know is that if there is any change in creative's drivers? Are they preforming better in Vista now?
I missed my 5.1 surround sound with xtrememusic.

thanks in advance.

I had the same problem and is one of the major reasons I went back to XP Pro, so as you, I'll be interested in the responses to your thread!

Also since then I purchased the Creative XFI Extreme Gamer Fatal1ty soundcard, [Wife inherited the Extreme Music soundcard], but have not reinstalled Vista to check out whether it performs any better even though it actually comes with a separate Vista installation disk, in XP its an amazing soundcard with some of the best 5.1 surround I've experienced yet and I'll eventually test it in Vista but haven't had the time lately to do a reinstallation of Vista and check it out.

I've read Creative has different drivers but haven't tried them out.

With my XFI Extreme Music soundcard in Vista I got so much sound distortion I couldn't use it at all, I'm basically a Gamer at heart so that was completely unacceptable, neither updates from Creative or MSFT solved the issues, so I removed Vista and went back to XP.

there might be many reasons why you are not getting 5.1 in Vista and the driver is not very likely the cause of it as it does support 5.1 over analog. And over digital it gives 5.1 with the pre-encoded dolby. So first of all check your audio settings. Are you using analog 5.1 kit or a digital connection?

I believe I'm using analog 5.1.
I have x-fi music and logitech x-530 speakers.
I was able to get 5.1 surround sound out of my speaker with xp.

I tried to mess around with vista before, but I couldn't get 5.1 surround.
People said it's because Creative intentionally crippled the vista drivers.
I'm wondering if the scenario has changed. Anyone able to get surround sound with x-fi card in vista now?

I have 7.1 Surround - Dolby and DTS.

But it is NOT a Creative card. It's an Auzentech that uses an X-Fi chip.

The monkeys at Creative couldn't write a driver with a Professor of Computer Engineering on the left, Mommy on the right, code samples in front of them, and a VB manual shoved up their collective a$$es.

Best advice is to buy products from another company.

Creative's latest round of drivers WORK VERY VERY WELL! If you're using Vista and you haven't upgraded to the new drivers DO SO NOW, the drivers have been as solid as a rock that hasn't been moved in a millenium, in my experience. Auzentech wishes they could get their drivers as solid as Creative's latest batch.
