So I decided it was time to upgrade from a laptop to a good gaming rig to play Age of Conan. I have picked out what I think will suit me well for my budget. I will be using my 24 in. Acer also, so I do not need a monitor. I guess my biggest concern was if the MOBO I have picked out will be compatable with everything, especially the processor.

MOBO-

The specs do not specifically say that it will support a Dual Core processor which is what I am looking at.

Processor-

I don't plan on OCing it, but is this a good chip to do so on? Not sure if I will need to OC a 3.16ghz chip

Video Card-

I don't plan on waiting for the new HIGH end cards that are coming out, mostly because I can't drop $500 on one.... and I want my computer NOW! haha

RAM-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145176
I have heard this stuff is pretty decent dual channel memory....

HD-

I am going with a 10k rpm drive. Is this good or can I sneak by with something less? I have a 250gb external HD that I store my junk on, so size does not really need to be that big.

Power Supply-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153039
Will this be big enough to handle my computer's needs?

I guess last but not least is my case. I really have NO idea what I am looking for when it comes to this. Looks don't really matter that much to me. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good gaming case that will provide sufficient cooling and space for my device?
Also, any comments or suggestions on my parts would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Stay away from that motherboard, far too old and nVidia's SLI Intel chipsets are garbage. Look at a motherboard with the P45 chipset instead like this one: Asus P5Q Pro.

Timing on the RAM are terrible. Look at G.Skill kits instead. You can get DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 RAM 4GB for $89.00.

PSU is overkill look at the PC Power and Cooling 610W instead.

Wait for the 48x0 series ATI cards- they will be in the $200-300 range and outperform that card.

Not OCing is a shame. Save yourself $70 go with the E8400 and move it to 3.6-4.0 with little trouble.

Dont get the Raptor...Any 7200.11 is almost as fast as a raptor, 1/2 the price and 1/2 as loud.

$67.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

The 500 GIG is only $89.99

-the old style Raptor's just aren't as dominant as they once were, you will hardly notice a difference. I have a raptor in my machine which i used for the OS... i have since stopped using it as i hated listening to it.

okay, to find out you need to go to the motherboard manufacturer's site and look on the support section for cpu support, not Newegg. Just a small bit of knowledge for you :)

If you're not gonna oc, you can get whatever ram you want, most of these guys have a 24/7 overclocking hard on. If you run stock...loser timings won't really make any difference.

Waiting until next Tuesday is a good idea because new ATI cards come out and may push prices down a bit.

I am running an ATI right now and am thinking I may want to try an NVIDIA. But I guess we will see when next week comes. They are set to release a week from today then?

Yea, I am hoping that they will push the prices down. I don't plan on ordering for a couple more weeks, so maybe that will give them time to chop the prices.

Yeah...the 23rd...and I love my ECS 8800gts 512...super cheap and no problems...can't even hear the fan under full load on Crysis...

The new ATI cards are supposed to be really good, at worst they'll push prices down for other stuff that is around the same speed.

I think you gotta go with what u like...but my coolermaster was cheap at $55, great airflow, I can actually feel the air being sucked in top to bottom from my 2 fans ! the front fan is a 120mm...and if your case is on the floor, top power and usb are the best !

On a bad note, I have a cat and the case is so free flowing it actually sucks cat hair onto the front !

it's the centurion 5 (532) with the bars on the front...I have a full size atx board..and it and my MB rattle around in there with the free space...the 1 thing I hate is the bottom hard drive cage is sideways, and gwtting the front panel off to put in dvd drives is a pain with the 2 bars.

I have never in my life had a DOA HDD...

I believe the review on Newegg is from a complete noob. NEVER believe newegg idiot reviews.

Go read up on the 7200.11 from respectable hardware sites, it is a solid drive, fast, quiet and relatively cheap. It is a no brainer over a Raptor. It is the only drive I use now (not the 320gig one) and I have never had a DOA one, nor have I known anyone to receive a DOA one.

I was only referring to the 320 and not the 500 gig model...I agree there are a lot of idiots but the total number of complaints on this model seems nuts even allowing for idiots.
