Playing GRID with X1950PRO

My system:

CPU: Core2Duo E6300 1.87ghz OC to 2.20ghz
Ram: Crucial 1gb + 512mb
GPU: Powercolor X1950 Pro (256mb)
Monitor: Samsung 940N


I'm trying to run GRID with my system, and yesterday it froze, so I rebooted. Then the 2nd time I tried, it gave me the blue screen

I was playing on 1280x1024 60hz setting
with detail levels on medium.

Before I tried to play this game, I had some dead pixels showing up on my monitor so maybe I figured it's the monitor, but then yesterday when I was trying to switch my resolution (ingame) to something else, my CCC gave me a VPU error saying that my graphic card is not responding....

So i'm guessing that it's my graphic...but not sure.

Has anyone played GRID with similar settings as to mine?
I know my ram isn't so good but I think it's because of my gpu...

If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.

Is the card overheating? The X1950 Pros are notorious for the poor cooling on most of them, my old Sapphire X1950 Pro used to overheat too.

Set the fan speed in the CCC to 100% at 70C. Or if you can't do it throug there, download ATI TrayTools and change it in the Overclocking Settings window.

my GPU temps are

48 ~ 51 celsius IDLE
64 ~ 66 celsius LOAD (Tested with ProStreet 1280x1024 AA full detail)

But the funny thing is,
while I was testing it with ProStreet, during a race, my GPU just shut down and my monitor went idle.

Looks like my GPU is losing power at high loads...

Yeah the temps are fine, so I think you're right. Card isn't getting enough power at high loads.

You could try updating the drivers, but I agree, it is more likely a power problem.

What's your power supply?

First of all, that isn't helpful at all.

Second of all, not everyone always needs the latest and greatest.

Third of all, I have the same GPU, and it hardly "suck". It's by no means high end, and may not be overly satisfying with the newest games, but it can play games at max (Bioshock, any source game, many others) just fine at 1680X1050.

There's just no need to attack someones hardware. No one benefits from it.

That I'll do later, after I test what's really wrong with it.

Thanks for your quote, but x1950's been working great, was able to run any game until now full options and got me good fps.

I'm not the type of person who gets the latest gpu when they come out. Sorry if i'm not an "early adapter"

What's your power supply?

I uninstalled, then installed the latest drivers including the ATI CCC.

No luck.

And my power supply is Antec SmartPower 2.0 (450W)

Now that I'm somewhat sure that my GPU is losing power,,
What could I do to fix this problem?

Only thing I could think of (If the cause of this problem isn't related to PSU), Sending it to Powercolor to get it fixed.

Would that be an ok idea?

I don't really know that much about power supplies, but I think you're psu should be enough... over time, the capacitors do age, and make you power supply less able to cope with things... So I'm not really sure.

And if you're psu is not to blame, and you are under warranty, then it probably would be a good idea to send it to Powercolor. But then you don't have a card for a few weeks.

I was also thinking RMA...

Seems like the best action i could take.

Meanwhile, I could wait for the updated list for July and just save up money.

So that i can give this x1950 to my 2nd, and get myself a 4850
