hello

If I have 2x1Gb memory of one brand, can I ad another 2x1Gb of another brand and still can use the dual channel? or does the 4 stiks have to be the same brand?

It's recommended that they are at least the same brand. They will probably work if you get different brands, but I wouldn't advise it. Also, if the new ram runs at a different frequency or timings than the old ram, dual channel will run at whatever the slowest speed and timing is.

Yes they will work BUT the memory timings will be at the slower pair. If you have a set with a timing of 4-4-4-15 and add a pair of 5-5-5-18. They will both run at 5-5-5-18.

As long as they are the same size you will be fine. They will work in dual channel.

I have a Dell XPS that has 2 Gig of PQI memory and 2 Gig of Micron running in dual channel just fine. The PQI is DDR2-667 and the Micron is DDR2-533 and they all run at 533.

To get the best performance get the same speed RAM.
