Hi everyone,
I work in an Enterprise Co. and I think we have a problem with our configuration we have as fallow:
45 Server
2000 Client
Cisco Switches and Router
the problem is when I connect any workstation to the network it takes around 1.7 minutes to take IP addr.
How can I fix this it should be seconds or am I wrong ?
Thanks

What are the ports set to? Trunk or access? Trunk mode will take longer to allow port forwarding. Access mode will be much quicker.

The port set to Trunk.
Should I change it to access or not, and what is the difference.
Thank you for your Support.

Trunk mode allows you to connect other network equipment to it. You can pass more than one vlan on these connections. It is a more stringent connection in that it needs to make sure that no network loops are created by connectiong something to it. This is why it takes longer to start working because of all the checking that goes on.
Switchport access is used to connect end equipment like computers. These ports start forwarding packets immediately when connected since they aren't used for other network equipment.
You can leave it as trunk and deal with the delay or change it to access mode for faster hookups.
Heres what I have on most of our switches. We use Cisco phones hence the QOS and voice Vlan 100

interface FastEthernet1/0/1
switchport access vlan 6
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 100
srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0
mls qos trust device cisco-phone
mls qos trust cos
auto qos voip cisco-phone
spanning-tree portfast
