Hi,
I have a Coolermaster V8 fan installed on my new i7 940 processor (2 months old). I just moved and my case (Coolermaster Cosmos) is way to big to fit anywhere, so I need to get a smaller one. The V8 is quite wide and it seems I may need to remove the V8 and replace with another...
How difficult is it to remove (i used the thermo-insulating paste) - will the previous paste application have left a mess and will it come off easily..? I'm afraid to damage anything... any advice would be appreciated.
Also, does anyone know of a good midsized case that will accommodate the V8 so that I don"t have to remove it..?
Thanks...!
Andy

1) Turn the machine on and do anything for 10 mins to get the Thermal compound warm, The heatsink comes off A LOT easier this way.

2) turn off machine, remove heatsink

3) remove the processor from the motherboard.

4) clean the processor useing Q-tips and Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

5) install processor

6) us MX-2 thermal compound on the processor

7) Install Heatsink
