Minimum is a quality 650w like the Corsair, but since it's only $10 or at most $20 more for a quality 750w then go 750w. PC Power and Cooling or Corsair

I know this is a touch off-topic (then again it isn't) but that PC P&P 750W PSU that was mentioned... is that the Silencer 750 Quad?

I know it advertises 60A on a single rail, but what exactly does that mean then... is it just 1 rail with 60A (that would be used for your GFX card I assume for epic power), or could you have 2 GFX cards getting 60A each?

All this 'rail' talk confuses the hell outta me... should probably research a little about what it means

Having one "rail" means that all the +12v power comes on one line that has all of the +12v using connectors on it. Having multiple rails would have the connectors spread across multiples +12v lines that would each have lower amperage values. Generally a large single rail is a better design, but in many cases it will not make a difference which way you go.

Thanks for the replies all, would this PSU be suitable?

Just want to check as it says it only has a single 12v rail where I've read that I'd need two rails for 2 4870's in crossfire.

I'm not great with amps an voltage :(

That one is the one i have and have been told its ok for xfire.

My 2 4870 have arrived today (at work now) so i  will find out for sure tonight.

750w is enough, but if you have lots of hdd's etc then more power would never hurt.

Get the 750TX, it's a better PSU that the Hiper or the BFG. BFG makes some of the best video cards, but their PSUs are only ranked 4th tier, just like Hiper's. Corsair is tier 2.

And yes the PC Power & Cooling 750W also goes by the name of Silencer 750W, same thing.

Between the 750TX at 82 pounds and the Silencer at 105 pounds I'd get the 750TX, even though I like the Silencer more.

Skip Hiper and BFG for sure, for 4870 crossfire, Corsair and PC Power and Cooling have the best PSUs in that range.

Xfire up and running and im impressed. I get roughly twice the framerate of my 8800gt (750/1750/950).

The picture quality also seems better somehow...difficult to say ho exactly but it just does.

Only issues are heat and noise. Idle these cards are quiet, but during gameplay they can get annoying...i knew this would be the case anyhow.. Simple solution...just turn the volume up :D

They benchmark in 3d mark very poorly for what they are...my two only get 17265 and one is not much difference than my gt. They shine in games tho. Ive never seen cod4 drop below 60fps...most of the time its well over 100. (@a600x1050)
