any brand recomendations as to what is the most reliable brand?

that is, one that wont die in less than a year

WD is good, and so is Seagate's 7200.12 line (avoid the 7200.11s though).

I have had good luck with WD drives. Only one drive has failed in the 15 years I have been using them.
