CPU Temp?

Forum Overclocking : Heatsinks & Air Cooling CPU Temp?

Hey guys!

I just built a new comp (first time) and im very interested in overclocking it. Im using a asus p6t deluxe v2 mobo ,core i7 and xigmatek dark knight fan. Right now my cpu temp is reading 42 degrees while idle. I am curious if these settings are right, I figured with a 3rd party fan i should be around 35 degrees. Granted the thermal paste has only been on for about 10 hours and needs to set, but im curious as to what kind of numbers everyone else is getting.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Here is a list of programs you need to know about.

Benching software and such is very varied. I use these for each purpose:
These are pretty standard and used by many.
Monitoring the PC temps overall: HWmonitor aka hardware monitor
CPUZ for CPU info
GPUZ for GPU info
CPU only: RealTemp
GPU only: ATI Tool, I have a Nivida GTX280, so it works on Nvidia

Loading/benching tools:
CPU loaders: Prime95 and OCCT
GPU Loaders: ATI Tool and the best one is Furmark, nothing pushes the GPU harder right now.
Benching for overall graphics/gaming performance is 3DMark06

And I suppose you mean the Heat Sink with a fan on it? Gotta have a heatsink. Just terminology......

Mobo temp monitors are unreliable. Thats why ya need to use the ones or some sort like them for temps. You'll need to load the CPU and check temps too.

Will this be a good build to overclock 2500k to 5.0GHz?

I'm the one that told him that a Silver Arrow will get to 5Ghz, so I'll take the blame...
