I'm a complete newbie to building a system, have had some input choosing components, but after re-reading specs, I'm a bit confused. Is this processor & motherboard compatible? I thought they were, but now I'm noticing that core2duo is not specified on the mobo cpu type. I'm sure it could be an oversight but I'm just not positive, so any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Thank you so much! I must not have had my glasses on when I was double checking it. ;-)

Be careful, I dont think that mobo will support the 45nm processors without a bios update. That means you have to have another cpu to boot up and flash the bios.

Thanks, I'll check into it. It's been difficult finding a compatible mobo that will give me 2 ide ports instead of 1.

No! Do not go 45nm with a 650i! You are just ASKING for trouble.

nVidia does NOT officially support 45nm on 6x0i chipsets. Only the 7x0i chipsets do.

Of course the BEST solution is to avoid nVIdia's crappy motherboards altogether and get a rock solid Intel chipset based board.

You don't need SLI unless you game at 1920x1200+ anyway, so there is little point of dealing with the issues.

Just curious why you need more than 2 PATA ports anyway?

The reason for the 2 pata ports is because I was trying to avoid buying new hard drives etc., but I may be going back to the drawing board.

Hard drives are dirt cheap.

250GB is $60

500GB is $90

So unless your budget is completely tight, get a new drive.
