Should I get the E8400, Q6600, or the Q9450? If I am mainly just gaming and surfing the web, etc., no video editing or anything, which would be the best processor for me?

I use the E8400 because its a great OCer but so are the others. Dual is enough for gaming because most games are not able to take advantage of multiple cores. But either of the quads would be great as well when using multiple applications. I waiting to go quad until its more mainstream and is made use of its power. I am running my E8400 at 3.6Ghz (I could go alot higher but its the sweet spot) on stock voltage and its fast enough for anything.

While most apps don't take advantage of multiple corse, I can tell you that every game currently in production will be coded to take advantage of quads. In short: Duo Core will be better if its clocked higher for now, but bit by bit, Quads will catch up.

Based on price/preformance/future preformance, I'd go with the Q6600 and OC to around 3.2+.

What about hardcore gaming only (including FSX). I was thinking of getting a 4570 and the highest processor at 3.16GHZ (E8500) but was also seeing the Penryn Quads drop in price. I'm also considering going back to MMORPG (possibly Star Trek Online).

+1 to what gamerk316/strangerstranger said, I am waiting for q9550 price to go down (expected this august 10th; in two days) to ~$316.
