DISC DRIVE - FAILURE TO RECOGNISE CD WHEN INSERTED

Last response: in Windows XP
Share

I was listening to a music CD today and put it on pause whilst I went out for 30 minutes or so. When I returned,I could not re-activate the play, in fact the drive had shut down. That was DRIVE "E". DRIVE "D" is working perfectly. When I look into "My Computer" the "E" Icon is not changing when I insert a cd and the window that opens asking for me to select a player, is not appearing.

I have tried re-booting and have tried using a variety of other CD's & DVD's, with no success. I think that the reader in the disc drive has burnt out!
