More Information

Hi!

I just finished building my SLI rig, my first build, holding two 8800GTs. One of the GTs I've had running in our Dell computer for about 3 months and the other one is brand new. They are of the exact same model, the overclocked Gigabyte Turboforce with Zalman heatsink.

I decided to go with Vista mostly because of DX10 and also because of the new experience. What happened though is that I couldn't play any games. As soon as I entered the menu of both Age of Conan and Crysis the screen would go black every 5 sec and a tray icon would pop up and tell me nvlddmkm.sys isn't responding and has been restored.

I browsed the internet and many ppl said the issue was Vista related so I installed XP instead. But with XP I had MSI Dual Core Center running and as soon as I browsed the menu of Age of Conan, I'd get an above 80c alert and the system would shut down.

So I'm guessing Vista wasn't the cause of the problem. I believe the nvlddmkm issue in my case was related to the heat problems.

I just started up NVIDIA MonitorView and it says that GPU1 is idling at 70c and GPU2 at 56c =S. So obviously I can't play any games 'cause one of my cards are overheating. But I can't see how one of the cards could be so much hotter than the other one? It's just as if the fan would've been out of order or something, but I've tried removing the case side panel while the computer is on but both fans are running...

What to do next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
