greetings mark,

Let me explain something really quick before answering your question. Your processor doesn't matter when it comes to compatibility with your graphics card. What matters is the slot on the motherboard.

Now, as for your question: No that graphics card will not work. You need an agp 8x card to go into an agp 8x slot. If you wish to use pci express cards, you must get a pci express compatable motherboard.

Patience. Waiting 2 minutes for a reply is sometimes not enough.

Too bad you didn't ask this question before you bought the new card.

Brilliant. Also, although it will be night and day compared to your old card, the 8600GT really isn't that impressive. Then again, coupled with the CPU, motherboard, and RAM upgrade you'll need to actually *use* the new card your whole system should like a new one... because it will be. Sarcasm aside, next time check compatibility before you order something... especially online where you won't be able to return it for free. Also, how much did you pay for the 8600GT?

Edit: Oh never mind... I see you also payed far too much for the 8600GT.

This card: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/668/8 [...] type=genre is only 10 quid more, is significantly faster, and is AGP and therefore compatible with your current system. That aside, to really use a card like the 3850 you really should get a faster processor anyway... assuming you have the budget you should probably return the 8600GT and do a complete system rebuild with faster components.
