USB port not working

My 500 gb segate hard disk usb port not working message shows USB devise not recognised

Sounds like a driver issue. Do other USB devices work in that USB port? Vista should be downloading the drivers for your hardware automatically, do you use Windows update? If not you should turn it on, you can do this by going to your start>control panel>windows update & turn it to 'automatically install updates.' If you are using Windows update maybe try the Seagate website and search the model number of your external HDD
