I have been having a really annoying problem in my home office for a while. I have 2 computers which I use a KVM to switch between, one being my main computer which has XP media center, and the other being a server I use for data storage which has XP pro. When accessing files and folders across my network from my main computer to my server, I intermittently get stalls that last for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. This happens both in applications where I am going through folders and in windows explorer.
These stalls basically just consist of that explorer window or application freezing for a short time, while I can still use other programs and windows fine. I monitored the CPU usage on both computers when these stalls occur, and both seem normal. This is also the only computer in this network that the problem occurs on, so I think it probably is something on the computer locally.
I found a potential solution online about the supress NTFS volume last access timestamp (), since I thought its possible that when looking at so many different folders and files at a time, maybe the stalls are being caused by the computer updating the timestamps, but it did not solve the problem.
I am out of ideas at this point and can't find any helpful info on google, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
