Hi all! I'm building a new PC for myself and I need some advise for my 3rd build, because it seems that every time I build a new PC I get slap in the face. In my 1st build I get stuck with an Intel setup with RAMBUS memory, on my 2nd build I get stuck with AMD's 754 socket, now on my 3rd build I don't want to get stuck with some hardware that gets obsolete the second I buy it. Please Help?! Here is what I got in mind for my 3rd build:
Processor: Intel's Q9450 (Xigmatek HDT-SD964 92mm Rifle)
MOBO: Asus Striker 2 Extreme
RAM: Patriot's PDC32G1600LLK (X2 for 4GB)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 280 FTW Edition
PSU: PC Power N Cooling Silencer S75QB750W
I want some opinions and if anyone knows if this setup will work fine. I will overclock the CPU but not the GPU. I plan to play demanding games like Crysis at a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050. I also want to use it for programing and having multiple OS running in VMware like Ubuntu Linux and Win XP. As the main OS I will use Vista Ultimate x64bit. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Since you KNOW the second you buy a pc it becomes obsolete, wouldn't it be better if you spent less on it? As opposed to spending a few thousands. Then again, the choices of hardware depends on a few factors like how long you're gonna keep the pc.
Yes I do plan to SLI I know I need to probably upgrade the PSU wen I do go SLI. I was doing some research on this mobo and it seems that is having problems with SLI do you know something on this I don't wan't to spent money on a second GPU that it will lock out my system. Is there a better SLI mobo out there or are the rumors just rumors of people that did not realize that they needed a better PSU. money is not an issue with me I just want some thing that will last me at least 2 to3 years before having to upgrade.
Good cpu, cpu cooler, ram and power supply. Questionable motherboard and silly choice of gpu (wait for the 55nm refresh or go ATI/CF). Yes you're already obsolete. Nehalem can pwn that cpu/mobo with both hands tied behind its proverbial back.

The push pin set up that the Xigmatek uses doesn't allow you to apply enough pressure to properly seat that heatsink...resulting in higher temps...so make sure you order that bolt up kit for it down below.
Yes I know of Nehalem and GPU 55nm shrink but I'm not willing to wait for that long. What I'm concern with now is a better mobo maybe I'll go for an Intel mobo and not get SLI for now. I have decided to go instead with ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution is a CrossFire mobo but I like the look of it and has less problems than Asus Striker 2 Extreme. Thank you "Why_Me" I will get the Retention Bracket
O.K I'll keep you all posted and I made one last change I took "Why_ME" advise and got PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX. I'm going to use my old PC as a router firewall and keep the PSU: S75QB750W in it
