I'm looking for a 1-1,5TB storage hdd and was wondering which is better WD or Samsung?

+1 for WD...but if it's only for storage, get the green drive, has slower RPM but also uses less power... If you're using to store and playback video, you probably want one of the WD Black drives, 7200 RPM and a faster transfer rate but also more expensive.

Latest generation Samsung F3 drives have 500 gig platters and are faster than the WD's .

If noise is a critical issue then the samsung F1 . Faster than a WD blue and completely silent .

Power saving drives are bogus IMO . You save 2 -3 watts of total system draw so maybe 2-3 % over all . You can save way more by configuring power options to hibernate when you are not there
