DVD drive not recognised in Windows or BIOS... but still runs?

I'm having problems with my HP Pavilion DV6000's DVD drive. Basically, it's stopped being recognised by Windows and the BIOS, but when I put a CD into the drive the CD loading cursor comes up, which means it probably knows it's there. I've tried the regedit fix but the values I need to delete aren't there. How can I fix it?

More about drive recognised windows bios runs
  1. Clear the bios.
The values it stores may have become corrupted.
  2. Cheers. How would I go about doing this?
  3. Remove the battery on the motherboard for 30 seconds.
See your manual for more information.
