Ok while looking at the Q6600 on newegg I saw this combo deal:

Newegg takes $30 off for the combo, then $10 instant. The price after rebate will be Subtotal($352.97) - Rebate($55.00) so it would be $297.97. That's like $100 down from the original price. The only thing that I'm not sure about is the Motherboard because I like ASUS and I don't know if MSI is a reliable brand. What do you guys think?

I'm also going to get a graphics card (9600GT?). But that's another story.

I'm not going to get all moist over this combo, but it does appear to be a good value. I believe that the Diamond line of motherboards is MSI's top-tier products.

I don't think I'd buy a 680i board these days. Last I recall, they were having problems with 45nm intel chips, and didn't overclock that well.

Of course, you'd normally pay:
$190 for Q6600
$20 for ram

which leaves ~$90 for mobo.

If you're talking about getting a 9600GT, then I'd suggest grabbing a P35 board, which you can do for that price range.

They were not completely supporting the new line of chips (E8400, etc), but that Q6600 was supported, I believe.

I used to have a P6N diamond and liked it, but upgraded to a P7N (when I build a computer for my father-in-law).

Good luck with the build.

hey i saw another combo deal for newegg on antec casese/power supplies. I'm interested in the Antec 300 gaming case, but there was a comment saying someone who used a TRU (not the extreme i think), and had to remove the top fan as it was obstructing the cpu cooler. do you think that new ximatek cooler that everyones raving about would have the same issue?

hope not lol
